DNS Settings
- click Daemons Tab
- highlight the DNS daemon, and click Configuration button
- please verify that the proxy IP address of the gateway in your local network (i.g. 192.168.0.1.) appears in the list.
If it is not, you need to remove the old one and add a new one. You can have
multiple PROXY IP : PORT lines if your gateway connects to multiple local
networks (your gateway has multiple network interface cards). Don't use the IP address from the Internet.
- check the proxy port number is 53 for DNS (do not change this number to other value).
- click Advanced button for other DNS settings.
- select Resolve Domain Name Directly or
- select Forward Only if you have a sophisticated DNS request (I am not aware
of any of those)
- TTL stands for Time To Live. It means how long a DNS answer is cached by
ComSocks. Default number is 10800 seconds. Some web sites may require a shorter TTL
time because they have dynamic IP addresses.
- if you select Forward Only, you will use Enable Broadcast by default. It
means ComSocks will attempt to detect any nearby DNS server. So you don’t have to
enter a DNS server IP into the DNS Server List.
- if none of above methods work for you, enter your ISP’s DNS server IP into the
DNS Server List. You can refer to the FAQ in our web site to find out your
ISP’s DNS server.
- click OK to accept the settings for every dialog box.
- highlight the daemon again and click Enable button to enable the service.
