Introducing ComSocks
Use ComSocks in your local network as a simple proxy/firewall server to
connect to the Internet. It allows you to share one single Internet connection among
different client computers( using TCP/IP protocol) in your local network. The
connection can be Dial-Up Networking, ISDN, xDSL, cable modem connection, and
any other types which are used by a single computer to access the Internet.
It is the only software that features HTTP, NAT, SOCKS 4/5 server, DNS server,
Telnet, FTP, POP3 and SMTP email, RealAudio, Port Mapping, DHCP server and
Dial-Up remote control together yet with sufficient simplicity for ALL Windows
platform. With the NAT technology, there is virtually no setup requirements for
most of Internet software.
ComSocks can be used in your home, small business, even in an enterprise
company. After you install and start running ComSocks from one of your computers
which connects direct to the Internet , all other computers will share the same
connection by TCP/IP, thus your computer becomes a gateway between the Internet
and your local network. Since the gateway machine acts as a firewall by only
opening a few well-known ports, no other users on Internet can access your LAN,
thus ComSocks protects you from the attack of Internet hackers. You don't have to
use this gateway exclusively for ComSocks, you can run other software
applications on this host because all the connection traffics are in the background.
ComSocks supports DNS forwarding for your LAN. It is very likely that your ISP
(Internet Service provider) has provided a DNS (Domain Name Service) for you,
so that an alpha-numeric web address (e.g. www.yahoo.com) can be translated to
a pure numeric IP Address (e.g. 204.71.200.75). This is required by some Internet applications.
ComSocks can either directly resolve your DNS requests or forward all those requests
to your default DNS server or any other DNS servers ComSocks can find (up to
three external DNS servers).
ComSocks version 3.0 has added a lot of new features to the previous version
2.65. The major thing is NAT. NAT not only eases the configuration of Internet
software in the client hosts, it also improves the performance of the Internet
sharing.
