Network Overview
- make sure that your gateway computer can connect to the Internet.
- you are using TCP/IP.
- if you are not going to use a DHCP server, you will
- setup each computer with an unique IP address (i.g. 192.168.0.x) (you can “ping” every computer from each other)
- setup the DNS and Gateway properties for each client computer
- create or edit the “HOSTS” file under your gateway’s Windows directory
- you may need to configure some Internet applications for the proxy
settings(i.g. RealAudio, ICQ, mIRC, etc…). Using NAT eliminates the needs to configure
most Internet software, (i.g. web browser, email client software, newsgroup
reader, ftp, telnet, etc…)
- make sure that your gateway host doesn’t run any power management application
because it may interfere ComSocks running in background. You can turn off this
BIOS setting when power-on the computer (BIOS boot). Disable Windows Power
Management from Windows 95/98 control panel.
