mIRC
Note: This configuration is designed to work with version 3.01 of ComSocks using NAT. If you are using an
earlier version, please download and install version 3.01.
There are two ways to configure mIRC to work with the ComSocks proxy server, and you must first decide
which way best suits your needs. Using the first way, you will need to download Identd from the
Fuzzy Logic download site here. However, this will
allow you to connect any of your client computers to your IRC server. The second way requires a port be mapped,
and because of this will only allow one client computer to connect to IRC. However, if you don't wish to have
additional software running on your gateway computer, or you only have one additional computer in your network,
you may want to consider this option. If you chose to use Identd, please begin at Part 1 and skip Part 2.
If you instead want to use port mapping, please begin at Part 2. Regardless, though, please continue to
Part 3.
Part 1
- Download Identd from here
- Install and run this software on your gateway computer
- No additional configuration is necessary for this software - it will answer identd requests for your
client computer

Part 2
- Open the ComSocks manager and click on the Port Mapping tab. Then, click the
Add button to configure the port mapping
- Enter a name for this port mapping, such as Identd TCP
- From the Proxy IP Address selection menu, please select 0.0.0.0(Any IP)
- Enter the Proxy Port 113, and click Add
- Enter the IP of the client computer that will be cusing mIRC into the
Destination Name or IP. In this example it is 192.168.0.2, though this may not be the case for your
network.
- Enter 113 into the Destination Port
- Select TCP from the Transport selection menu
- Click Ok

- Click on the General tab
- Remove the check from Use this proxy IP for all daemons and port mapping
- Click Apply

Part 3
- Open mIRC, and select Options from the File menu
- Select Firewall from the left menu
- Check Use SOCKS Firewall, and select the Socks5 protocol
- Enter the IP of your gateway computer for your Hostname
- Verify that the Port is 1080
- Check Initiate DCCs through firewall

- In the ComSocks manager, click the Daemons tab
- Verify that the Socks daemon is enabled
